This engraving of Wilhelm Steinitz and Johannes Zukertort during their world chess championship match was published in the contemporary American newspaper "Harper's Weekly" in January 1886. The match took place in New York City, St. Louis, and New Orleans, and was the first to be officially recognized as the World Chess Championship. Wilhelm Steinitz won the match 10-5 and became the first World Chess Champion.
