Charles Steinmetz and his colleagues at the University of Breslau pose for a student group picture. It was Steinmetz's activities with and writings for the socialist movement, that drew the German police's attention to him, leading to his eventual emigration to the United States. At the time this photograph was taken, Breslau (the German pronunciation of Wroclaw) was a part of the German Empire, but is now located in Poland.
