York stone and concrete paving with steps flanked by hounds leading down to the pool area and gazebo in the Gibberd Garden near Harlow. Sir Frederick Gibberd championed the use of concrete and his garden was no exception, hand-casting paving stones himself noting, 'we use a lot of concrete in a variety of mixes. It weathers to interesting textures and colours, providing it is watered with a hose immediately after pouring.' The swimming pool eventually became a water garden and the thatch of the gazebo beyond was replaced with a wooden roof.
