“Still Life with Jug” was the earliest work presented in the exhibition “Ivan KliΟ Βασίλι Τσεκρίγκιν υπήρξε καλλιτέχνης που απέρριψε τον αναλυτικό κυβισμό και τη μη-αντικειμενική, ανεικονική τέχνη και στράφηκε προς την παραστατικότητα. Αυτό αποτυπώνεται στο έργο του "Καθιστή γυναίκα", που πρόκειται για μια έγχρωμη ημι-παραστατική σύνθεση που απεικονίζει με αδρές πινελιές μια καθιστή γυναικεία μορφή, πιθανότατα ημίγυμνη, αφαιρετικά αποδοσμένη. Η γυναικεία μορφή πρωταγωνιστεί, καταλαμβάνοντας το μεγαλύτερο μέρος μιας σκούρης, μονοχρωματικής ζωγραφικής επιφάνειας.un — Liubov Popova”, organised by D. Sarabianov and G. Costakis in Moscow, in June 1972. Popova created this work during her summer vacation at her parents’ dacha in Krasnovidovo. Having just graduated high school, she was attending painting classes in Moscow, at the studios of S. Zhukovsky, K. Yuon and I. Dudin, who focused on Impressionist techniques. Like other artists of the forthcoming avant-garde, who were pupils of those teachers, Popova will experiment with the principles of the modern western trends, yet translating them into Russian context. A difficult task by definition here, the artist succeeds in maintaining balance between the landscape and the narrative, that is the still life, employing the dynamics of colour as a structural quality in the composition. Even at a young age, Popova demonstrates her distinct ability to orchestrate the volumes in an architectural manner, to convey a strong sensation of materiality of space, by means of solid forms, pure colours and bold lines, without over-analyzing the role of light.
