Stone of Saint-Ambroix

Anonymous2nd century

Musée Bertrand
Châteauroux, France

The very elaborate architectural framework presents two people of affluent social standing. The man is holding a wax tablet, which allowed people to write and count. His left hand appears to be holding an object that could have been a roller or a stylus case. The woman presents a piece of white cloth called a mappa as well as a ring, just like the man facing her.
