Philadelphia-born and Harvard-educated William Stanley Haseltine is known for coastal landscapes painted on both sides of the Atlantic. His work was frequently exhibited in America and he often visited here, but he lived in Rome for much of his life. The artist’s early attention to geological detail eventually gave way to more painterly images that were imbued with softly filtered light.
