Straw basket

Artifact Sambaqui. This basket was lined internally with resin, preserved only in part. This is a rare piece, due to the difficulty of preserving organic materials in tropical climates. It belongs to the Balbino de Freitas Collection and was collected in an unidentified sambaqui from the southern Brazilian coast.
