This piece captures the vibrant scene of the Ajegunle community in Lagos State, rich with raw talent and the energy that stems from the galala dance that originated in this area of Nigeria. I feel deeply connected to this piece, as it reminds me of my own past. My childhood was shaped by growing up in a ghetto, and the galala dance was one of our favorites during that time. As a child, I often imagined what Ajegunle would look like due to the immense talent that emerged from there in music, dance, football, and various forms of creativity, even though I had not visited Lagos until much later. Creating a work that reflects my past and my favorite dance was effortless for me because the mental images were so vivid in my mind.
