Jesús Moncada (Mequinenza, 1941-2005) has been recognized by critics as one of the best contemporary writers of the 20th century. For many years, he combined his passion for literature and painting, which began during his youth in the Old Town of Mequinenza. The Old Town of Mequinenza was an Aragonese town that disappeared under the waters of the Ribarroja Reservoir in the 1970s. Located at the confluence of the Ebro, Segre, and Cinca rivers, it stood out for its strategic position, river transport, and its important mining basin.
