Guan Liang, courtesy name as Lianggong, born in Panyu, Guangdong province. In 1917 he studied oil painting in Kawabata Painting School in Japan. From 1918 to 1923 he studied in Pacific Painting Academy in Japan. In 1923 he returned to China and became the professor of the Shanghai Fine Art School. He attended Northern Expedition and served as the chief of Art Unit, Policy Department. From the 1930s to 1940s, he taught temporarily in art schools in Guangzhou, Shanghai, Chongqing and somewhere, sketching from nature in famous mountains and great rivers. He served as professor of Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts, artist of Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy. He wrote Essay of Guan Liang Art, Guan Liang Memoirs. Publications are Guan Liang’s Ink Paintings of Peking Opera Characters, Album of Guan Liang’s Oil Paintings, etc.
