This print is from George Woodward's book 'Eccentric Excursions or Literary & Pictorial Sketches of Countenance, Character & County in different parts of England & South Wales', published in 1816. It shows two guides at Poole's Cavern in the Peak District of Derbyshire, England. The guides put candles in the front of their hats, and the candlelight would reflect on the stalactites on the roof of the cavern.
Poole's Cavern is one of the seven 'Wonders of the Peak' described by the seventeenth century philosopher, Thomas Hobbes. It lies within the Peak District National Park.
