Sugar maple

Sugar maple is one of the most distinctive and handsome of all North American trees. Its stature and stunning fall color are highlights of autumn throughout much of eastern North America and its sap, collected in early spring, is the source of maple syrup. A tall, deciduous, shade tree with an upright, rounded habit, its dense branches hold opposite, five-lobed leaves that turn brilliant shades of yellow, orange, and red in fall.
