By 1929, the electrification of phonographic items in Germany had more or less been completed. However, the development of the mechanically operated portable gramophone took place at the same time, from 1922 to 1938. The reason for this was practical—it was to be used by people anywhere. The horn is inside the gramophone and the sound comes out of the back. In 1939, the company Electrola GmbH brought out the suitcase gramophone "106," costing 149 Reichsmarks.
