Sulfanamide was a life-saving disinfectant widely used in WWII and credited with saving many lives. Infection in previous wars typically killed more men than did bullets; improved knowledge of microbiology began to change this in WWII. These tablets were to be issued orally; the drug was also sprinkled in powder form over a wound.
