Canadian soldiers, German prisoners of war, horse-drawn wagons and wounded on strechers marching along a sunken road. Alfred Soden English identifies the location as Canal du Nord, in the Nord-Du-Calais region, on the outskirts of Cambrai. The Battle of the Canal du Nord took place here from 27 September - 1 October, 1918 as a part of the Hundred Days Offensive.
