This piece is one of the last works produced by Malharro during his short lifetime. Interrupted by his early death, his production was already showing signs of new issues derived from the Impressionist movement and his particular vision of it.
In Atardecer (Sunset), the artist chose the pastel technique as his medium in order to capture the effects of illumination in the landscape. Just as in the previous work, the time of day is not chosen at random, considering that at sunset, the light possesses a variety of hues that embellish nature with their multiple contrasts. By this light, the trees take on mysterious, superhuman forms. The sensitive tones delicately bathe the trees, and the entire work is tinged with a nostalgic atmosphere that appears in many of his works.
