Rick Ayotte is known as the "Bird Man" in the world of glass. After a childhood spent charting migratory birds and carving the subject out of wood, he began creating ornithologically accurate paperweights in the late 1970s, in part due to the influence of Paul Stankard. His weights have become progressively more complex, including detailed foliage and elements of the bird's surroundings.
