Swan Waves was commissioned in 1996 to integrate an artwork into the newly created Boeschenstein Park, which artist Athena Tacha imagined as a site-specific architectural feature that references both the more natural undulating forms of architect Cesar Pelli's Owens Corning Headquarters adjacent to the park (also completed in 1996), and the traditional geometric masonry patterns appearing throughout the warehouse district and in the building formerly standing on the site. Together, the forms create a structured wave set into the landscape for visitors to explore and sit upon.
