With no photographic records of the closed-door event held at City Hall, this recreation of the swearing-in of Lee Kuan Yew as prime minister on the afternoon of 5 June 1959 provides a suggestion of that historic moment. It shows Lee and Sir William Goode, the last British gov¬ernor of Singapore, as well as an aide at the left. The artist, Lai Kui Fang, trained in Paris in the 1960s.
