The settlement at Balachadi, was provided for the Polish orphans rescued from USSR. It was built in 1942 near Jamnagar, in a location offered by Maharaja Digvijaysinhji in the duchy of Nawanagar, which was under his rule. Through 1942, approximately 650 children (aged 2 to 15) arrived in the settlement.
