A rare copperplate book of popular symbols based on Daniel de La Feuille's Devises et emblèmes (Amsterdam, 1691). It was published on the instructions of Peter the Great (in the centre of the frontispiece) at the time of the first attempts to reform writing in Russia. The volume serves as a dictionary, as the descriptions of the various symbols are printed in Russian (in Cyrillic), Latin, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, English and German.
