To the left we see Renaissance buildings, in the background a city on a hill. Under a rolling cloudscape, the visual space has been constructed like a stage set on the principles of perspective. The scantily clad figure of Justitia (the personification of justice) is seen leaning on a pillar, the symbol of power and strength. In front of her is a winged putto, holding out scales towards her with his right hand and pointing with his left to a sword lying beneath the globe. Justitia, however, is turning away from the emblems of earthly justice, and gesturing toward God the Father above, from whom derives all justice in heaven and on earth. At the right, the tower adorned with trophies, which we can interpret as a symbol of earthly might and justice, stands on crumbling foundations.
