Syninclusions in amber

Senckenberg Nature Museum Frankfurt

Senckenberg Nature Museum Frankfurt
Frankfurt am Main, Germany

When several organisms are enclosed in a single piece of amber, this is referred to as syninclusion. Such pieces are particularly valuable for scientific research, since all of the animals lived at the same time in the same place. In rare cases, even interactions such as predation, mating or parasitism are documented. This piece of amber contains 38 animals that were trapped in the resin: Besides insects, it also includes mites, spiders, isopods and millipedes.
