Royal Botanical Gardens' first plant hybridizer, Joan Brown, also bred the Gardens' first introduction to the world of lilacs. Hybridised in 1975, this flower was introduced commercially to celebrate the centenary of McMaster University (Hamilton, ON) in 1987.
