This red-lacquered tobacco tray belonged to the House of Maeda. The Maeda clan was a powerful daimyo (feudal lord) who ruled Kaga province during the Edo period. The tobacco tray was a tool to welcome guests. Therefore there are two kiserus (Japanese pipes) on this tray. One of them is for guest.
