For the last ten years or so LEE Sunmin (1968- ) has conveyed her opinions about the family system of South Koreans and their households both symbolically and straightforwardly. Both Twins and Twins II start by revealing the the bodily resemblance between father and son and the characteristic similarities shaped by the same living environment. Made in 2008 as part of the “Twins” series, Yeoni and Jeongyun and Taehwa and Huiji divulges the maternal desire to raise her daughters as her own avatars against the backgrounds of the children’s rooms. And Sangyeop and Hansol, Sujeong and Jiyeong, and Taejeong and Sunho, which are representative of Twins II, tell stories of father and son or mother and daughter against the backgrounds of some beautiful sceneries of nature.
