Yangzhou, China

Excavated in Dongfeng Brick & Tile Factory of Chengbei town, Yangzhou city in 1968, this set of talc statuettes featuring simple, free-flowing carved lines and vivid modeling of animals and birds is quite rare among the pieces unearthed in tombs of Yangzhou. The talc case has a round upper face, which is embellished with carved four-petal flowers. In this box there are three talc tortoises and one bird in different sizes, all crafted with freestanding carving technique.
