Tangsa community is an ethnic community of north-east India. This photograph is of New Yumchum village in Changlang district of eastern Arunachal Pradesh. They are a very colourful community with gorgeous bright coloured dresses, ornaments and weaves of specific patterns and colours signifying their identity. The women traditionally wear a wrap around skirt, a top, a stole and head gears made of fabric, accompanied with different types of necklaces, earrings, bangles, and garland for their hair buns.

  • About the craft: Tangsa community resides mostly in the Dihing Patkai region of the Changlang district of eastern Arunachal Pradesh.The community believes that they have migrated from Mongolia, Yunnan and Mynamar many centuries back.The gorgeous Noa Dehing river originates from the Dapha Bum of Patkai hills and cuts through the pristine forests of this region.
