The scene is probably inspired by the story of Jean de La Fontaine and Erminia among the shepherds of Torquato Tasso. It represents Psyche who, after the attempted suicide for the abandonment of Love, she is welcomed by a shepherd in the modest house where he lives with her two granddaughters.
