In the late nineteenth century, wealthy Americans demanded elaborate silver. The Gorham Manufacturing Company offered pieces that reflected their highly eclectic - and expensive - tastes. This flamboyant tea and coffee set incorporates a multiplicity of styles--including naturalistic flowers and leaves, hammered lids that presaged the Arts and Crafts movement, and elements derived from Near Eastern cultures.
