The Ebro Delta is the area of Catalonia with the longest tradition of rice production. There are five authorized varieties in this PDO: Bahia, Bomba, Montsianell, Senia, and Tebre. The rice is harvested and then left to dry, stored, milled to remove the skin and any impurities, and then washed before being packaged. The development of rice cultivation in this area is motivated by climatic conditions, as well as soil salinity and water-table height. It is a high-quality rice in terms of both production and flavor.
