Although paintings of Pyongyang were made since the early Joseon period, it flourished during the late Joseon period when the public awareness of Pyongyang increased. This is a folk painting of Pyongyang, made towards the end of the Joseon Dynasty. On the first panel, Lake Tungting is depicted in moonlight and on the tenth panel the Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan is shown. Famous attractions of Pyongyang are painted from the second panel to the ninth panel. The buildings and the castle walls are colored in a way they would stand out.
