Museo d'Arte Orientale
Torino, Italy

The ten-pointed star-shaped tile is decorated with arabesque motifs with alternating light-blue and ivory lanceolate patterns on black, interlaced across the entire surface around the small, six-pointed star in the centre, standing out over cobalt-blue background. Such tiles were manufactured using the cuerda seca technique, in which the different colours of the glazing were separatedby contour lines made of a blend of manganese and oily substances.
