Although never a pupil of Rembrandt Salomon Koninck used his style and technique and often reiterated his subjects. The angel borne on a cloud and holding a palm twig also occurs in a painting from 1618 by Rembrandts teacher, Pieter Lastlman, now in the Hermitage, Sankt Petersburg. The composition is also comparable to an “Annunciation” drawing attributed to the school of Rembrandt and now in the Albertina Museum in Vienna. The paining is signed S Koninck 1655.
