Avant-garde artists from all over the world came there. The school of design as a artistic space for experimentation. Dessau has more Bauhaus buildings than any other city in the world: the Bauhaus Building, the Masters' Houses and the Houses with balcony access are modernist icons and are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Today, students, designers, curators and architects from all over the world learn and research in the artistic-scientific programmes of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation such as the Bauhaus Residency or the Bauhaus Lab. In 2019 we will celebrate the Bauhaus Centenary.
