In Tadeusz Kantor’s work, the turning of the 1940s and 50s was chiefly marked by a departure from figuration. In his pictures, the artist created unreal space in which shapes reminiscent of human figures were depicted as monstrous abstract skeletons. They only slightly pointed at humanity, being its metaphor.
