The discovery of X-rays

The German physicist Wilhelm Röntgen discovered a new type of electromagnetic radiation able to pass through matter and to “photograph” the inside of the human body. While recognising the extraordinary potential of this technology in the field of medicine, he refused to patent the discovery, preferring to donate it to humanity.
