The composition is rich in colours (from bright crimson colour of the communion table to deep blue colour of the Saviour’s himation.
It is a symbolic scene of the Blessed Sacrament of the apostles. In the centre the communion table is depicted with two figures of archangels on both sides. Christ, who gives communion to the apostles is depicted twice (on the right with wine and on the left with bread). They are approaching Christ in two groups, six persons in each group. The group from the left is headed by Peter the Apostle. The group from the right is headed by Paul the Apostle. Above the composition, there is a quotation from the Gospel in Greek: “Take, eat; this is my body.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying,“Drink of it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins” (Matthew 26:26-28).
