The Evening

Kandinsky is regarded as the creator of the first abstract picture (in 1910). The work was painted in Munich and makes up part of a group called by the artist “landscapes and romantic compositions”. It recalls the convention of the atmospheric symbolism typical of the Secession, and also shows some inspiration by Monet’s “Haystacks” seen by Kandinsky in Moscow.
