The Alta river flows slowly between steep cliffs. A stream comes down the steep mountainside and ends in a waterfall by the river bank. A group of people are on the opposite bank, dragging their boat on land. Two boats are crossing the river. This is chart LVI from Skjöldebrand's "Voyage pittoresque au Cap Nord".

Skjöldebrand was a Swedish nobleman, officer, writer and an artist, who travelled thru Finnmark at the beginning of the 1800s when the Swedish crown was interested in the local copper resources in Alta region. He has drawn and painted several motifs from Alta.
