The Felix Warburg Colony established by the Joint for homeless Jewish refugees

The colony included twelve houses, outhouses, laundries, bath houses, and bakery shops. Beleaguered Jewish communities in the immediate postwar years faced ongoing challenges that threatened to further unravel their loosely tethered existence. New socio-economic realities stripped European Jews of their former livelihoods, leaving them without the means to help themselves. Their communal infrastructure, too, lay in ruins. To address these conditions, the Joint, a humanitarian organization, helped Polish Jewish community to rebuild communal institutions and to develop new health and welfare programs.
