The premier Sydney regatta, the Anniversary Day Regatta, was held on Sydney Harbour every January to mark the arrival in Australia of the British First Fleet on 26 January 1788. This view shows the 18-foot skiffs racing in a north easterly wind with the Orient line passenger ship as flag ship. The race is followed by a ferry of spectators. This painting appeared in the March 1930 edition of the BP magazine with the title 'The Flagship the Orient Company's RMS Osterly Anniversary Regatta on Sydney Harbour'.
