Professor William Buckland lectures to students in the School of Natural History, using specimen bones, fossils and wall charts. Seated beside him is Martin Wall, first Reader in Chemistry, and standing behind him his fifth successor Daubeny. The older man seated in audeince to right is possibly John Shute Duncan, appointed first Keeper of the Ashmolean Museum in 1823 and who with Buckland revived use of museum collections in natural history teaching. with news cutting, poem 'specimen of a Geological Lecture' attributed to Dr Shuttleworth
