Remarkably, even after years of neglect, fires, and other damage, several windows in the Grant Mansion retained their original heart pine sills and casings.

In 2008, the Atlanta Preservation center restored all of the historic windows, sills, and casings per the National Par Service's guidelines for historic rehabilitation.
