First English illustrated edition of Don Quixote, translation by J. Philips. Illustrated folio size book with seventeen engravings by anonymous artist and engraver; full page frontispiece and sixteen half-page sized, outside of the text, two per page. Bound in brown leather with dark speckled with dry engraving at the base of a rectangular empty frame on the cover. Spine with highlighted ribs in one of the upper quarters of which there is a garnet-coloured patch of leather engraved in gold with "History of Don Quixote" and on the other quarters there are drawings of a stylised flower framed in stitching. Binding restored.
