  • Label Text: The Conquest of Taiwan (Formosa), which was granted as a Japanese territory at the Treaty of Shimonoseki, was rushed, and The Japanese Imperial Guard, still in their winter uniforms, were quickly transported to Taiwan on May 29th. The Japanese met with fierce resistance throughout the island, but after five months the Republic of Formosa was conquered. Formosa remained a Japanese colony until 1945.
