Photos of Marija Šlapelienė’s bookshop with comments by the owner
"Marija Šlapelienė's Lithuanian bookstore in Vilnius. Established on February 6, 1906, at house number 13, on a street previously known as St. John and Blagoveshchenskaya and Daminykonų. Now the street is called Garelio, and the house number is 11. The buildings, an architectural monument, look different from the bookstore in 1972. The book collection was donated to "Knygų Rūmai" and taken away in July 1949. A photo copy from 1931 commemorating the 25th anniversary of the bookstore shows me and my husband, Dr. Jurgis Šlapelis, distributing literature and participating in public and cultural activities. At the door stand: M. Šlapelienė and her assistant A. Klišytė. To the LTSR "Knygų Rūmai" from M. Šlapelienė. Retired. Vilnius, 1972. (Gorkio Street 40-4)"
