In times of global economic crisis and greatest need, Otto Griebel (1895-1972), co-founder of the Association of Revolutionary Visual Artists (ASSO) and member of the KPD, created a picture of international solidarity. The large-format paintings depicts the workers as standing shoulder to shoulder, looking confidently and head-on at the viewer. With this, Griebel counted on the power of the workers' movement, if only they stood together. The reality was different: The National Socialists, in power since 1933, persecuted and murdered (not only) the Communists.
