This print is entitled ‘The Little Norwich Shawl-Worker’, by Joseph Clover and dates from 1826. In the early years of the shawl industry, patterned designs were embroidered around the edges of the shawl by large numbers of local girls and women. Few women involved in the textiles industry in Norwich appear in the records, but their contribution to the local economy was immense.
