The Lotus Peak is a refined expression for the Mount Fuji. There is an inscription, after the poem in Chinese about the dignity of the sacred mountain, that Kaioku visited Sakai at the age of 65. It also says this was painted for somebody in the Hanaoka family, the details of which are unknown.
Reduced and controlled brushwork indicates the possibility of an improvisational production. The magnificence of the mountain is emphasized by putting clouds on its bottom and shaping the mountain top at an acute angle.
